Hawaii's own Shane Victorino will be the featured speaker at the Downtown Athletic Club Hawaii's lunch meeting this Wednesday at the Hukilau in downtown Honolulu. The public is invited to this special event. Doors will open at 11:30 a.m., and Victorino is scheduled to speak at noon. The $20 admission includes a great buffet prepared by the Hukilau's award-winning culinary staff.

RSVPs are strongly recommended. Please call 523-3460.

Victorino, a two-time MLB All-Star, is coming off a spectacular Game 6 performance in the 2013 World Series. "The Flyin' Hawaiian" drove in four runs in that game to help the Boston Red Sox clinch their third World Series championship in 10 seasons. Victorino is now a two-time World Series champ, having helped the Philadelphia Phillies capture the title in 2008.

Victorino, 32 (he turns 33 on Nov. 30!) graduated from Saint Anthony High School on Maui. He made his Major League debut in 2003 as a member of the San Diego Padres. He played for the Phillies from 2005 to 2012 before being traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers (the team that originally drafted him in 1999). On Dec. 12 of last year, Victorino inked a 3-year, $39-million deal with the Red Sox.

The All-Star outfielder has made some of his best plays off the field. In 2008, Victorino was the recipient of the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award, which is bestowed to the MLB player who best exhibits the character and integrity of the baseball legend. In 2011, he was honored with the Branch Rickey Award in recognition for his community service work.

In February 2010, Victorino and his wife, Melissa, established the Shane Victorino Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing opportunities for underprivileged youth. Locally, the Foundation has supported numerous programs and projects, including: After-School All-Stars Hawaii; Adult Friends for Youth; A Keiki's Dream; Maui Family Support Services; Palama Settlement; Boys & Girls Club of Maui; and more.

Come on out this Wednesday and meet Hawaii's World Series hero!
